Anybody who knows me well knows that I love to roll cast a spinnerbait. So when I saw that Kevin VanDam had designed a spinnerbait rod I had to try it out. When it comes to spinnerbait rods, I find that it is very difficult to find one that completely satisfies my needs; until this one! Let’s take a look at some of the features of the new Quantum Tour KVD 6’10” Spinnerbait rod. At first glance, this rod is very appealing visually. It sports the foam split grip that has rapidly become a favorite of tackle enthusiasts everywhere. It has a unique maroon color that sets it apart from your normal, run of the mill rod blank. This color serves many purposes but the most obvious one is that it allows for quick recognition when switching techniques through out the course of the fishing day. This rod is much more than just another eye-catching tool though. The 6’10” blank, if you ask me, is the perfect length for overall efficiency when casting spinnerbaits. It allows a great blend of power and finesse. Typically, shorter rods allow for more accurate presentations when fishing in tight to the cover and longer rods are more suited for either making long casts or moving big fish away from cover quickly. This rod length lies in between both of those categories so you end up with the best of both worlds. Couple this rod length with a nice limber tip and you can make pinpoint accurate casts and still not sacrifice the power needed to move larger fish from cover. With a rod that does not have enough tip, your casts tend to rise towards the end of the cast. This causes a bigger splash when your bait enters the water and can potentially cost you a few bites. That is key when you are putting your bait in tight quarters! Quantum definitely got the right blend of tip and backbone with this stick! The Tour KVD rod is also very light and sensitive. This allows for ultimate feel for what your bait is doing: especially when you are slow rolling a spinnerbait in deep water or when the bite is as subtle as a change in the blades rotation. The light weight of this rod also allows you to sling half-ounce spinnerbaits all day long without wearing yourself out. With the new Tour KVD Spinnerbait rod, Quantum has really knocked it out of the park. I feel like my quest for the perfect spinnerbait rod has now come to an end and it really should not come as any surprise to me since it was designed by one of the best spinnerbait fishermen in the world. I really like the concept that Quantum is using by allowing their stable of big name pros to design technique specific rods for the techniques they have helped make famous. If the other thirteen rods in the Quantum Custom Rod line up are as dead on as this one I am sure there will be many pleased customers out there. Currently, these rods can only be purchased on Quantum’s website so do yourself a favor and check out this new line up of rods at www.Quantumfishing.com. I think you will be as pleased as I am.
